The transformation of an old slaughterhouse in north Antwerp into a new campus for Artesis Plantijn Hogeschool Antwerpen began last fall. Being poured now are the additional concrete floor plates, and the circular openings that perforate the existing facade are also well underway, transforming the previous utilitarian structure into a qualitative environment for education. In addition, the new tower building proposed next door, that will accommodate classrooms and administration, has three of the eight floors erected. The project, an ecological transformation of the durable structure of an old slaughter house by the canal Lobroekdok in the north of Antwerp, converts the existing structure into a new chemistry and electromechanical campus. The project reorganises the building into a set of classrooms and laboratories by adding an additional storey to the building. Mezzanine structures are added on top of this new floor to use the height of the existing shed roof for technical utilities.
