INTERIORS – Kortrijk

The 25th silver jubileum edition of the Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk XPO, themed ‘Silver Lining — INTERIORS’, was curated by OFFICE in collaboration with graphic designer Joris Kritis and artist Richard Venlet. Central to the scenography is the idea that furniture and objects are not isolated items; they are always part of the organised space. Therefore, for this enormous exhibition (30,000 m2), the existing underlying structural grid of the complex of 5,7 x 5,7 (which was previously made explicit in the OFFICE- designed gallery around the complex) was elaborated as a floor plan, organising the ‘plots’ of the stands. Six crossing paths were defined, continuing through the different exhibition halls, and materilised by a hanging ‘silver’ veil. On each of the six crossings, half-transparant, perforated metal rooms were installed as interiors which escape the commercial logic of the exposition around it. Various international guests were invited to create these interiors, such as Richard Venlet, Pieter Vermeersch, Muller Van Severen, Valerie Traan, Etage Projects, Carwan Gallery and MANIERA.
