PROTOTYPES – Brussels

Four prototypes present studies on a table and a chair. The table is resolved by a single corner detail, a joint between three equal angles, L-profiles performing as both vertical and horizontal supports. This structure is surmounted by a horizontal plate that corresponds to the profiles and extends their edges. A metal pin in the vertical open corner connects the leg to the tabletop. The table exists in three models – polyester, aluminium and steel. Depending on the strength of the material, its length increases from 100cm to 260cm, while its width respectively decreases. The altered proportions of the three models are established by the geometry of the set, which defines the diagonal of a square. All tabletops are coated in white epoxy. The chair is a variation of a three-legged folding stool. One of its fixed tubular steel legs extends to support a square tablet tray above its round leather seat. To balance this extension, a steel counter-weight is added to the opposite side of the leg.
